How to use this page
-
Pick a video in the extension
Open the page that plays the video, click the HLSMate icon, and choose the stream you want. The extension creates a task and opens this tab to load the media.
-
Choose quality and threads
If the stream offers several resolutions or audio tracks, pick them here. Threads are how many segments download at once: 3–4 is usually fastest, but some servers reject bursts, so drop to 1 if the task pauses.
-
Wait, then save
Keep this tab open until loading reaches 100%. Save writes the file to your downloads folder; closing the tab early discards the data already loaded in memory.
Common questions
What do the thread settings change?
Threads are parallel segment requests. More threads usually mean a faster download, but servers that dislike bursts may return errors. Start with Auto, and set 1 if the task keeps pausing.
Why did the task pause by itself?
Too many failed requests in a row. That usually means the server is rate-limiting you, the URL expired, or the connection dropped. Lower the thread count, then press Start loading again.
Can I download live streams?
Only as a snapshot: a live playlist has no fixed end, so the page saves what is listed while it records, not the whole broadcast. Start before the part you want and save before it scrolls out of the playlist.
Why is audio missing from the merged file?
HLS often keeps audio in a separate track. Choose the audio track, save the video, then use Merge selected audio. For very large files merging is skipped automatically so the tab does not run out of memory.
Why does it fail on some pages?
Encrypted streams (AES-128, SAMPLE-AES), DRM-protected services, and sites that require special headers or cookies are out of scope. Those cases are reported as an error instead of producing a broken file.
Limits and responsible use
HLSMate does not bypass DRM, paywalls or logins, and it does not support YouTube. Encrypted playlists and byte-range segments are refused with a clear error rather than saved incorrectly.
Only save content you own or are allowed to keep. The tool runs entirely in your browser: no media passes through our servers, and nothing you download is stored on them.
