Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the HLSMate website and browser extension handle information. Last updated: July 8, 2026.

Core statement

HLSMate detects videos, downloads media, and merges HLS/M3U8 segments mainly in your browser. The extension does not upload downloaded video content, media resource URLs, page titles, or download history to our servers.

Information we may process

  • Media resources detected in the active tab, such as HLS, M3U8, MP4, or WebM links. They are used to show the popup list and pass a task to the downloader page.
  • Temporary downloader task data, such as filename, segment progress, thread selection, and loading status. This data is used to complete the download workflow.
  • Local preferences, such as the static video size filter and selected thread mode, may be stored in browser local storage.
  • The website server may generate standard access logs such as IP address, browser type, access time, and request path for security, abuse prevention, debugging, and basic operations.
  • When you voluntarily submit the feedback form, we receive the email address, issue category, browser information, extension version, and issue description that you provide for support and troubleshooting.

Extension permissions

  • activeTab / tabs: identify the active page and keep media lists scoped to the current tab.
  • webRequest: detect video, audio, and streaming playlist requests.
  • downloads: start browser file saves for completed media files.
  • storage: save local preferences and temporary download tasks.
  • scripting / content scripts: communicate with the active page and downloader page where needed.

What we do not do

  • We do not upload, host, or transcode your media files.
  • We do not sell user data.
  • We do not bypass DRM, Widevine, PlayReady, FairPlay, sign-in restrictions, or copyright protection measures.
  • We do not intentionally collect page text, account names, passwords, or form contents.

Feedback data

The feedback form is received by the HLSMate website. Please do not submit passwords, full media URLs, private identity information, or other sensitive content. We use feedback only for support, troubleshooting, and product improvement.

Third-party services and links

The website may link to Microsoft Edge Add-ons, Chrome Web Store, documentation, or other external websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices. Please review their policies when you visit them.

Disclosure

We do not disclose personally identifiable information unless required by law, needed to protect service security, needed to respond to abuse, or authorized by you.

Updates

We may update this policy as the product, listing requirements, or legal requirements change. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised date.
